Art Tip 62:

Mold Growth on Acrylic Paintings

Acrylic paintings are by nature more prone to mold growth. As such, no professional cleaner can clean an acrylic painting without doing some degree of damage to the original paint.

Acrylic paint films are by nature soft and so they attract and hold dirt more than their other counterparts. And since this also makes them hard to clean, they are more susceptible to mold growth. Preventive maintenance such as ensuring they are exposed to constant room temperature is still the best.
