Art Tip 35:
Judging the Age of PaintingsJudging the 'age' of a painting is very difficult. There are so many forgers out there that even professional assessors need to rely on chemicals and special tools to examine an artwork. Some of the most common techniques of forgers are spilling coffee on an artwork, rumpling it and stretching it out, stomping on it, and more! Some paintings may genuinely be old BUT they're not worth much because the artist who made it never became popular. So the next time someone tries to sell you an old painting and claims it to be 'priceless', get a second opinion.
