Express Yourself With Religious And Spiritual Art

With all of the violence and war in the world today, more and more people are turning to religion and spirituality for comfort. This important focus can easily be expressed in your home with the art you place on your walls. No matter your religion or beliefs, there is art that will allow you to bring your spiritual self into your living space and remind you on a daily basis of what calms and consoles you.

Christian art runs the gamut from "The Last Supper" and "Christ's Head" by Leonardo da Vinci to Madonna and Child icons.

"The Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo is a detail from the Sistine Chapel in Italy and is an especially popular work. Surrealist artist Salvador Dali created some disturbing, but moving images of Christ on the cross. Giovanni  painted the Holy family in beautiful soft colors, and the famous work of Heinrich Hofman, such as the painting, "Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane" are portrayed in darker tones. Raphael's very famous classical Madonna and cherub paintings have never lost popularity, and Richard Judson Zolan's "Eternal Life" is a stunning painting of Jesus bathed in light.

The work of Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, which includes portraits of angels, is a pre-Raphaelite style that is rich in color, while the work of Antonio Allegri Corregio contains scenes of the Holy family with saints.

The child angels in the paintings of contemporary artist Dona Gelsinger are perfect for a child's room, as are the baby angel portraits of Joyce Birkenstock. Another great addition to a child's room is the painting "Blessed Are the Children" by an unknown artist depicting an angel looking after two little ones, and Halbohm's works, which are posters of inspirational paintings and messages.

Christian art is better represented than other religions on most websites. However, this site contains a small amount of art devoted to Judaism. Tim Ashkar's Christian paintings are specifically created for African Americans. Native American spirituality is represented in such works as "Appeal to the Spirit" by Cyrus Edwin Dallin and "Prayer to the Spirit of a Buffalo" by Joseph Henry Sharp.

Paintings of angels are very popular with those who are religious, as well as those who consider themselves spiritual but not religious. There are many pieces to choose from, such as Agostino Caracci's "Angeli", Gustave Moreau's "Inspiration", Bartolome Esteban Murillo's "The Archangel Raphael" and "Cherubs Scattering Flowers", Edward Wright's "Illuminate My Path", and Vincent Van Gogh's "Half Figure of an Angel".

Abbott Thayer's stunning angel portraits almost look like photographs, and in contemporary artist Lena Liu's painting, "Angel of Light", a brightly lit angel walks among white doves on a beautiful staircase surrounded by Corinthian columns. Jamie Carter's angel paintings are simply titled "Love."

Spiritual art can do much to bring you a sense of protection and calm in your home. It also allows you to express what is most important to you and show your visitors who you are. To get an overview of the religious art available, visit this site .
