Cuban abstract artists found absolute freedom to express their feelings, thoughts, ideas, and principles in their art. The most
famous
abstract artists in Cuba are the members of the Las Once (The Eleven) Group. The group was composed of eleven exiled Cuban artists mainly influenced by American Abstract Expressionism. They were exiled because of their outspoken regard for the lack of freedom in Cuba. Las Once's members were Francisco Antigua, José Antonio Díaz Peláez, José Ignacio Bermúdez, Hugo Consuegra, Fayad Jamís, Veredo, Raúl Martínez, Tomás Oliva, René Ávila, Guido Llinás, and Antonio Vidal.
Abstract art enabled these Cuban artists to fully show their political and personal views about what's going on in their country, with their fellowmen, and their government. The most famed
abstract artists in Cuba were Guido Llinas, Antonio Vidal, and Julio Gerona. Their works have been shown and exhibited around the world and influenced many Cuban and foreign
abstract artists.
Many
abstract Cuban artists of the past found inspiration from the freedom they were longing for. Modern artists found their inspirations from their country's most complex or ordinary qualities. Contemporary
abstract Cuban artists like Raida Lopez, Julio Mateo, and others adapted some of the older principles of the art movement from the Las Once Group. But their works are now more colorful and bear a different sort of intensity.
Modern
