Abstract Artist - Names and Styles to Ponder

An abstract artist can simplify or exaggerate the features of his subject to make an abstract painting, drawing, or sculpture. Many artists developed different art movements like Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Renaissance Art, Victorian Art, +abstraction. Abstraction in art can be literally explained as the removal of some parts or qualities of the subject as you can see it in reality. The artwork is deliberately designed, drawn, painted, or sculpted in such a way for you to discover something intangible but true about it. Abstract art has three major forms - Cubism, Neoplasticism, and Abstract Expressionism.

Abstract artists should know the most famous names in the abstract art movement. Cubist artists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, Neoplasticists like Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg, and Abstract Expressionists like Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock. They may have their own styles in making their artworks but abstract art is their major inspiration.

Cubists approach their subjects analytically by drawing or painting their subject's basic geometrical forms. They started abstract art's style of depicting subjects in forms and shapes that you can never really see in real life. Neosplasticists, on the other hand, believed that an artwork do not need to be the exact replica of the subject which can be seen in real life. Their artworks, which are usually made of vertical and horizontal lines and only contain the primary colors red, yellow, and blue, are said to be their expression of life as they see it.

Abstract Expressionists aim to show their personalities through their spontaneous artworks. Their works are evident examples of studied colors and brush strokes. Action Painting and Color Field Painting are the two major kinds of Abstract Expressionism. An action painter, like Jackson Pollock, puts emphasis on his paintings texture and movement. A color field painter, like Mark Rothko, puts emphasis on his artwork's colors and shapes.
