Famous Abstract Artists and their Famous Works
The works of
famous abstract artists
like Pablo Picasso or Jackson Pollock are just a few of the favorite subjects of many
reproduction paintings. One might say it's not as if it's rocket science to understand why this is so.
These two
abstract artists, among many others, have indeed made waves in the art world, especially in the field of abstraction by taking on different abstract styles. Pablo Picasso, together with Georges Braque, whose
famous works include
“Candlesticks and Playing Cards”, was the leader of the Cubist era, which started in 1908 in Paris, France. Cubism, which is considered to be a more contemporary art movement reached its peak in 1914 and went on until the 1920's. Other famous
abstract painters from this era include Roger de la
Fresnaye, Fernand Leger and Francis Picabia.
Meanwhile, Jackson Pollock became a famous abstract expressionism artist through his action
painting. He created his
abstract masterpieces by dripping and pouring paint onto the canvas, showing spontaneity, characteristic to this type of abstraction. Apart from Pollock, there were other famous abstract expressionists including color field painter, Mark Rothko. Unlike Pollock, Rothko's style focuses more on colors and shapes.
Another famous
abstract artist is Piet Mondrian, one of the two main painters of the Neoplasticism movement the other being Theo van Doesburg. The underlying principle of this abstract style, which became popular in the 1910's is that the vertical and horizontal lines and the primary colors being the only absolutes of life. As such, Piet Mondrian as well as other neoplasticist artists only used planar elements, as well as the colors red, yellow and blue. In fact, one of Piet Mondrian's popular masterpieces is entitled,
“Composition with Red, Yellow, and Blue.” Written by: Gelli Montano
