Famous Abstract Art Artists

When did famous abstract art emanate? The period was after World War II, a time when the world is just recovering from a devastating war that cost millions and a lot of lives. It is during this unlikely period that some of the most popular abstract art was created. And it is in the late 1940s up to the entire period of the 1950s that expressionism had its best run.

Perhaps, abstract art and abstraction has truly found a home in expressionism. For in expressionism an artist and a painter, in particular, can truly be spontaneous and expressive without focusing too much on structure and perspective. It becomes an art based on strokes and colors as used by the painter. The end result is a painting that truly speaks of the artist's personality.

The abstract art movement in American art paved the way for artists such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, to name a few. Their techniques include paint splattering or spraying and combining of loud colors in huge patterns, thus truly adding the aspect of spontaneity into the art. Still, artists such as Mark Tobey went as far as exploring calligraphy and incorporating it in his art.

Through their art and styles, these popular abstract art artists have made their mark in history and have continued what Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and their earlier predecessors have started. They have also transformed what may have been just another form of art into one of the most powerful movements in modern art that continues to draw artists and audiences alike to this day.
