Native Paintings Abound In Australia
|
|||||||||||||
Native paintings, also known as aboriginal art, are plentiful in the continent down under - Australia. A quick look at online dictionary Wikipedia states that aboriginal art is 'art done by Australian Aborigines, covering art that pre-dates European colonisation as well as contemporary art by Aborigines based on traditional culture'.
This aboriginal colorful art is not limited only to paintings, but includes a wide variety of mediums including wood carving, sculpture and clothing. It was also used to decorate weaponry.
What makes aboriginal paintings appealing? Since aboriginal art involves story telling, myths, rituals, sorcery, and magic, where the artist describes the sensations of dreaming, the stories of creation, their beliefs, and their spirituality, many people can relate closely, despite the gap in history. Even more attractive is the 'supernatural' essence of these colorful paintings – the bond that binds humans with their environment and the unknown explanation of why things are.
From the time man could make use of his hands to express his feelings, art has always been in attendance. Aboriginal art dates back to the Stone Age, where stone was used as the canvass and sharp stones as the tool in which everyday life was demonstrated. Bark painting also became a trend, to be followed by painting as we know it today, using pigments and colored dye to create colorful pictures.
The fascination with aboriginal art is very apparent in modern times when everything has gone vintage or retro – and it looks like it's here to stay and for a very long time.
