South western Oil Paintings by Various Artists

South western oil paintings are paintings depicting the great American Southwest. Many of these oil paintings are contemporary and depict the history of Native Americans.

Most paintings are of nature such as desert scenes, landscapes, wildlife, and people. A large number of south western paintings are also spiritual in nature due to the many Indians who resided in the Southwest.

Aside from paintings, south western art also includes jewellery making and basket weaving. All of these works of art reflect life in the south west such as in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.

Below is a list of artists who create oil paintings of the Southwest:

Jack Dolan: Known for his use of only a palette knife for all his paintings, some of his popular artworks have desert landscapes, rivers and canyons as themes

William Murphy: Influenced by his surroundings in his native New Mexico, Murphy believes his artworks are great mediums to see the beauty of the Navajo culture. Some of his paintings include Canyon Fight, Navajo Country, and Red Rock.

Linne Thomas: Her paintings center on south western life such as landscapes of the Southwest, wide open spaces, old buildings and autos in old western towns or big cities.
