African Americans art prints can be seen as a celebration of the culture and heritage of African Americans.
Framed or unframed, African American prints add character to any room as these artworks reflect the lives of African Americans and usually deal with their culture, history, and heritage as black Americans.
African American art can also be described as Afro American Art , Ebony Art , and Ethnic Art .
During the slave trade, Europeans brought in millions of black Africans to work as slaves in North and South America . Of this number, about 500,000 Africans worked in what is now known as the United States from the 1600's to the late 1800's.
Today, approximately 35 million African Americans live in the United States with over half of them living in the Southern States.
The history of African Americans is mainly about their struggle for freedom and equality. And this is evident in many African American artworks you see today.
Many of these people still suffer from the stigma of racism but they continue to celebrate their heritage and make great contributions in all areas of American life.
