Artwork done in the impressionism style is to paint a scene using unmixed primary colors and small strokes to simulate actual reflected light.

It was a painting style prevalent in France in the 1860s. The subject of an Impressionist is mostly of middle class urban life; often, actual subjects were scenes from the lands or areas around where they lived.

An Impressionist like No Other

Claude Monet The foremost Impressionist. He started this style of art in the 19th century with some of his colleagues. He is best known for his artworks focusing on gardenscapes of ponds, lilies and beautiful flowers.

August Renoir The setting of Renoir's artworks were mostly of popular river resorts and views of Paris. And since he was always so engrossed with people, his artworks often included friends and lovers.

Edgar Degas - The artwork of Degas was done in many mediums, especially pastel. His most popular artwork is his paintings, drawings, and bronzes of ballerinas.

He drew ballerinas using live models and sketched their activities such as rehearsals and performances.

His focus was on the psychology of movement and expression, and the harmony of line and continuity of contour. This technique sets him apart from the other Impressionist painters.

Berthe Morisot - Morisot is most popular for her artwork of seascapes. She also painted a lot of
Landscape scenes.

She used pale colors, experimented with pastel and watercolor and produced many a scene including women, children and domestic life.
