Tips for Creating Baldur's Gate Portraits

Baldur's gate portraits for the computer game can be found in a number of websites on the internet.

These drawings of warriors and other characters in the game are available for download along with other information about this popular computer game.

Creating a character for the game can be tricky. Sizing and color are very important when creating a character for playing the game. Below are a few tips for creating a character for the game.

Tip no. 1:

Create a sketch of the Baldur character you want to add. Create the face of the character starting from the top of the head but only up till the chin.

Take the top 60% of the image with the character's head being barely cut off by the top of the image. Sometimes, the eyes of the character will end up about 50 pixels from the top of the image.

Tip no. 2:

Measure the height of the head from slightly below the top of the head down to the chin. The head needs to be 60% of the total height of the image so divide the height of the head by 60%.

To get the width, multiply the height by 65%.

Tip no. 3:

Scale the image down to the appropriate height for the game: 110 x 170. Save this file as a 24-bit color BMP.

Tip no. 4:

Create the small version of the portrait by scaling the image to 38 x 60. Finally, convert the image to 256 colors, and save the portraits as an 8-bit BMP.

Tip no. 5:

Make sure to always start with a larger image that has to be scaled down. This makes the image appear very clean when seen in BG.
