How to Take your own Children Portraits

Taking your own children portraits is a great way to keep memories of your children since they grow up so fast.

Keeping a photo in an album or in picture frames is a great way to preserve these pictures and is great keepsake for your children to later reminisce about their youth.

You can take pictures of your infants, toddlers or older children with your camera.

It can be challenging to take good pictures of kids but it can also be fun if you include the whole family. Here are some tips on how to take pictures of your own children.

Tip no. 1:

Get down to the same level as toddlers and children. This allows for even exposure from the flash.

Tip no. 2:

Candid pictures of children make great pictures. Watch and wait until they do something entertaining.

Tip no. 3:

Pictures can be a hard task even when photographing adults. Try letting children pose the way they want. If it's more comfortable for children, they'll be more willing to cooperate when taking their pictures.

Tip no. 4:

Try to do more before the shoot. Decide where you want the pictures to be set before you get your children and the camera. Take pictures in their favorite room, yard or playground.

Tip no. 5:

Children should play a part in the making of the portrait. Using a favorite toy or prop might show off more of their personality in the pictures.

Tip no. 6:

Try to take pictures of children under good natural light. Repeatedly using a flash can be annoying. When taking pictures outdoors, a slightly overcast day is better than taking pictures at noon because the brightness of the sun creates shadows.

Tip no 7: Remove clutter in the background and let the toddlers fill as much of the frame as possible.
