Tips for Drawing Senior Portraits

Senior portraits are usually photographs, paintings or drawings of grandparents. These portraits can be done in oil, watercolor, pencil or ink.

Portraits of grandparents are often taken to give as gifts to grandparents.

When giving these portraits they are usually displayed in specialized frames such as grandpa picture frames specifically for framing pictures of grandfathers.

You can also find grandma picture frames or plain frames to display these portraits.

Since posing for portraits can take a long time, photos are usually used for portraits of grandparents that are painted or drawn. This way, old people don't have to pose for long hours at a time for their portraits to be drawn.

Below are a few tips on how to draw old people.

Tip no. 1: Wrinkles can establish that your character is wise and distinguished. Wrinkles are an important element in drawing old people because it is a sign of age and time.

Tip no. 2: When drawing portraits of old people wrinkles are commonly drawn at the far corners of the eye (crow's feet) and at the corners of the mouth (laughing lines). Wrinkles around the eye are drawn to emphasize the eyes and wrinkles around the mouth are emphasized to show laughter.

Tip no. 3: Another place to draw wrinkles on old people that is commonly ignored is the wrinkles above the nostrils that flare down to meet with the mouth's laughing lines.

Tip no 4: Wrinkles can make a plain face far more interesting. Never be afraid to look at an old person for portraits to do some practice sketches.
