Think about it, it will be so troublesome if you finally have the painting hanging on your wall only to find out that it doesn't look as good as you thought it did.

Art Tip 93: Tears on Paintings

If the painting has had a tear on it, call the professionals in immediately. Do NOT use any adhesives on the back side of the painting as most have chemicals that will only damage the painting more.

Further, do not delay in its repair, the tear may get bigger and serve as a 'home' to insects and dust which can ruin the painting. If you do not know any professional cleaner, call the gallery or place where you bought the painting. Most of the time, they offer this service or can recommend someone they use.

Art Tip 94: Impressionist Paintings - Ensuring its Value

Knowing the condition of the painting you are purchasing spells the difference between a good investment and a bad one. When it comes to buying impressionist paintings, here's a tip - the impasto (thick application of paint on canvas) should be raised.

If this is not the case, the impasto MAY have been flattened or crushed because of applied heat during restoration and this greatly reduces the value of the painting. So not only are you paying more that you should for the painting, the chances of you selling it later for a higher prices is also very slim.

Art Tip 95: Fairy Paintings - For Your Little Girl (and You)

Why not surprise your little girl with an intricate yet whimsical fairy painting? Little girls all want to be Princesses right? Let part of it come true by giving her a fairy painting.

Choose one that's appropriate for her age, if she's really young choose the whimsical and colorful ones. Actually, you would be surprised that there are many fairy paintings for adults too. They focus more on the genre of Victorian fairy paintings and are of course a bit more pricey.

Art Tip 96: Placing Paintings in Your Home

Take care where you place paintings in your home. Apart from ensuring humidity and temperature levels, make sure that they are located where people do not pass by often.

As such, a hall will not be a good place because people can knock them off while hurrying out, taking off their coat, or accidentally hit them with an umbrella or cane. Placing a painting in the kitchen is also a not a good idea even if the painting is about food. Pretty soon the heat, steam and smells of the food will cling to the painting.

Art Tip 97: Still Life Paintings can Whet Your Appetite

They look so good you want to get that apple from the bowl and eat it. Still life paintings of fruit, produce or food can have that effect on people. As such, it is nice to place still life paintings in the dining room to stimulate the senses so to speak.

Just one word of caution - don't place the still life painting there if it it will be directly in front of a serving table where steaming food is placed. Before you know it, your still life does not look that appetizing anymore.

Unless you bathroom is really huge, it is not a good idea to put a painting there, especially the artwork it is of value. The extra humidity from the hot showers promotes the growth of mold and mildew over the painting's surface. In addition, avoid storing or displaying paintings near air vents or water pipes. If any leak occurs, your painting will be ruined.

If you really want some art decor in your bathroom, settle for inexpensive art prints or posters.
