Art Tips 81 to 90

Art Tip 81: Collecting Paintings ? Start Cheap

If you're starting to collect paintings, start buying inexpensive paintings first. This is especially true if you are not yet familiar with the particular art genre you want. And even if you are, it pays to get a bit more experience before you start

purchasing paintings that cost a thousand dollars and up. So purchase and inexpensive painting, read up, talk to people in the know and then gradually move on to pricier items.

Art Tip 82: Buying Paintings of Famous Artists

Just because it is a painting from a famous artist does not mean it is a great buy. It is important to note when a particular painting was painted by the famous artist. In general, an early piece made by an artist displays tight workmanship. A painting created during his mid-life is usually energetic, while one made later in life is a bit sloppy. So it is not always the artist's name , but also how he executed the painting.

Art Tip 83: Landscape Paintings - Love that View!

Landscape paintings provide great 'window views' or great escapes. With a landscape painting hung on your wall, it is as if you are looking out your window and on to a totally different view. This is great if your abode does not have many windows. If your living in a place that's quite cramped, then be sure to pick landscapes with great horizons as it gives the effect of stretching the space in the room where it is hung.

Art Tip 84: Choosing Animal Paintings

Animal paintings are great but be mindful of the type of animal portrayed on the painting, what the animals are doing and where you are going to hang them. You may love animals, but if you entertain a lot, note that many people are put off by animal paintings placed in the dining room (yes, even if it's a painting of your dear poodle). Many people find it uncomfortable to eat with animal paintings hovering over them.

Art Tip 85: Select Paintings for YOUR Birthday

This is great birthday (or any event) gift idea for everybody. There are websites online that enable you to choose the paintings YOU like. This list can be previewed by people who are thinking of giving you a gift. This is great because

1) you won't end up with gifts you don't like,

2) you can set a budget you know is within the range of family and friends,

3) you don't end up with duplicate gifts because the site will track which paintings have been sold already, and

4) you help family and friends because they don't have to waste time trying to figure out what you want.

Art Tip 86: Storing Paintings - Don't just Stick them in the Basement

Paintings require care from start to finish. From the selection process, to its framing, hanging and storage - paintings require care. As humidity plays an important role in ensuring that paintings are preserved, don't just stick your paintings in the basement or attic. Check where humidity and temperature levels are more likely to be constant and store the paintings there. If this is not possible, try to store paintings in an area where you can install temperature regulators.

Art Tip 87: Paintings in Paris - What Can be More Romantic?

What can be more romantic than having your picture painted or drawn in the City of Lights? And it's not difficult to find these talented artists as well, they line the streets! Many of them display previous work so you can check which one you want to do your portrait. By the way, having your portrait done in the streets of Paris is one of those spontaneous moments so don't fret if the wind is blowing hard on your hair or if people stop and start staring for a few minutes. Just enjoy it!

Art Tip 88: Paintings - Home Care

As we have heard time and time again, temperature levels can help preserve or wreak havoc on your paintings. Perhaps the easiest home care you can do is NOT your air conditioner and/or heater running at full blast during the day and then turned off at night, or vice versa. The extreme variances in room temperature and humidity levels can hasten the ruin of any painting. Further, fluctuations in humidity and temperature levels accelerate the chemical breakdown (oxidation) in all materials, thereby shortening their life.

Art Tip 89: Give Paintings a Try

If you are not an art or paintings enthusiast, don't shut the door altogether. If you get invited to a gallery, just drop by. If a friend wants to go to a museum, tag along. Many people who claim to have no desire to be involved with paintings find themselves falling in love with pieces that 'speak out' to them. Sometimes too, a passing interest turns into full blown enthusiasm as one learns and gets more exposed to paintings.

Art Tip 90: Fish Paintings - Sources of Tranquility

I've often heard it said that having fishes in a bowl or having an aquarium can bring a semblance of peace . It seems that by simply watching fishes in their tranquil and blissful existence, a sense of tranquility comes over you. But, if you're very busy and don't have time to care for a fish (let alone a whole aquarium), then fish paintings are for you. They provide the same feeling without the fuss of having to feed them everyday!
