This may not be your fault. Fact is, it is possible that the acrylic painting is really susceptible color fading. Why? The artist could have used a less than desirable quality of acrylic paint. These inferior quality paints tend to have cheaper colorants which fade easily under UV light.

Acrylic paintings are by nature more prone to mold growth. As such, no professional cleaner can clean an acrylic painting without doing some degree of damage to the original paint.

Acrylic paint films are by nature soft and so they attract and hold dirt more than their other counterparts. And since this also makes them hard to clean, they are more susceptible to mold growth. Preventive maintenance such as ensuring they are exposed to constant room temperature is still the best.

Why don't you pay a visit to a local museum and get a feel of the wooden frames they use. At the very least, you will at least get a feeling of the impact' such frames have on which type of picture.
