Art Tips 1 to 10

Art Tip 1: Make Way for Wall Frames

Using a wall frame? Make sure that you place it in an area that others can easily see and does not have much clutter. Also, if you place wall frames in your child's room, make sure to mount it securely as kids jumping up and down in the room may shake pictures loose from their mooring and cause them to fall and be broken.

Art Tip 2: Selecting Picture Frames

Don't forget the size of your photograph when scouting for picture frames. So make sure you've measured it properly, or better yet, make a cut out of the original photograph. Bring this with you when you shop and fit it into the picture frame, making sure that none of the details in your photograph is covered by the frame.

Art Tip 3: Fine Art Prints and the Sun

You took time selecting your fine art print; a little care will ensure they last a long way. Never place fine art prints in direct sunlight as it will make the print fade sooner than you think. Also, don't let them get wet as they can easily be destroyed.

Art Tip 4: Paying Attention to Contemporary Paintings

You may think that contemporary paintings are made at a much later date than antique paintings or portraits but it does not mean that they should not be scrutinized for signs of deterioration. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure remember?

You don't need to purchase any art testing kit or anything like that. Just use your eyes. The next time you look at your painting, do more than just admire the artwork... look for signs of aging or deterioration.

Art Tip 5: Ask for Advice When Selling Paintings

Selling paintings is not an easy process. You may be over- or under-valuing the worth of your artwork. Either way, you lose because over-valuing it will make it difficult to sell and under-valuing it will make you loose money. What do you do? Consult people in the know such as an art consultant or talk to people connected with art galleries or auction houses.

Art Tip 6: Positioning Deco Art Prints

Deco art prints are great to hang on walls but after awhile it looses its novelty and appeal. Don't fret; like furniture, just change the position of deco artworks within your house every now and then. Apart from the fact that this brings a new perspective to the painting, changing its location can help prevent fading due to exposure to your house indoor lighting.

Art Tip 7: Spotlight on Paintings

Indoor artificial lighting may be nice to highlight the beauty of paintings but do avoid extremely bright artificial indoor lights. Bright and excessive lighting will cause the painting colors to fade. If you really want to use lighting specifically for your artworks, use track lighting with a dimmer control. A distance of about 10 feet from the painting is ideal.

Art Tip 8: Buy Paintings for Sale on the Internet

Why would you buy paintings for sale over the Internet? For one, you can shop online without any sales person or art consultant hovering over you. It's a fact that novice art purchasers often feel intimidated by these people and often leave without making any purchase at all. This is sad because it doesn't cultivate the appreciation of paintings in a person. So next time you're thinking of buying a painting, go online and shop at your own pace!

Art Tip 9: Protecting Canvas Paintings

Canvas paintings are sensitive so do avoid touching its front or back sides. If you're moving house, avoid rolling the painting but if you must, protect it by using glassine paper. Glassine is a thin, semitransparent paper that is slightly resistant to air and moisture.

Art Tip 10: Large Paintings Will do the Trick!

Your place is never too small for paintings. But if you think it is, here's a trick you can use to make a small room bigger. Hang large paintings! Specifically, hang a big landscape-themed painting with a faraway horizon on your wall. Like mirrors, it creates the illusion of having more space.
